The Young Sheldon series finale's reveal of Sheldon and Amy's daughter is addressed by showrunner Steve Molaro. In an effort to re-establish its connection with The Big Bang Theory, the Young Sheldon finale brings back Jim Parsons and Amy Bialik as the fan-favorite couple. Their involvement accomplished a couple of things. Firstly, it confirmed that Sheldon has been working on a memoir, hence why he has been narrating events of his Medford, Texas childhood, and secondly, offered a much-needed post-The Big Bang Theory update. As the flashforward scene confirmed, Sheldon and Amy have a daughter.
In a new interview with TV Insider, Molaro addresses the big Cooper-Fowler bombshell. For context, the existence of their firstborn, Leonard, was confirmed in Young Sheldon season 4. However, this was the first time Sheldon and Amy mentioned their daughter. Read Molaro's full quote below:
We were very purposely not specific, but I think this is a little bit in the future because you think his kids are probably older. In my mind, [they’re around] ten to twelve. And obviously, they didn’t have kids at the end of Bang , so you’re probably ten-to-twelve-ish years in the future.
We opted not to elaborate. I think it felt like that moment would’ve been a lot of information to say, ‘And your daughter is…’ And also it felt like we didn’t want it to feel strained. Maybe someday in the future, we’ll find out the name.

Despite hopes that the Young Sheldon finale could double as a The Big Bang Theory reunion, that didn't happen. Surprisingly, the references to its parent series were also rather light, with the last episode only getting a Penny name-drop and some Easter eggs from Apartment 4A. Admittedly, this may be disappointing for viewers of the nerd-centric sitcom, but Young Sheldon opted to tease what the future looks like for Sheldon and Amy. Having an expanded family forced them to move to a proper house, although the episode didn't show their kids or the rest of their new home.
Luckily, there are other avenues for Chuck Lorre and his team to reveal more information about Sheldon's growing family. Firstly, through Georgie and Mandy's Young Sheldon sequel, Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage. While it is also set in the past, having a narrator like its parent series would be an easy way to provide new details as to the fate of Georgie's brother in the far future. Secondly, Lorre is also working on a separate The Big Bang Theory spinoff, which may be set in the same timeframe as Sheldon and Amy in the Young Sheldon finale.
Currently, there are no plans to reunite the Pasadena gang. However, five years after The Big Bang Theory ended in 2019 may be enough time to properly revisit the flagship series. Maybe, instead of going back in the past as they did with Young Sheldon, the new series goes to the future, allowing the next spinoff to properly introduce Sheldon and Amy's daughter and her brother.
