Following the end of the flagship sitcom, The Big Bang Theory, devout fans of the show have been wondering about the potential whereabouts of the characters. The prequel show on CBS starring Iain Armitage has provided many details here and there with subtle easter eggs but the finale of Young Sheldon may have revealed the potential fate of one beloved character which may rattle you if you have loved Johnny Galecki’s Leonard Hofstadter.

The 279th episode of The Big Bang Theory was bittersweet despite the happy ending of the acclaimed sitcom which had a wonderful run with 12 seasons. The Big Bang Theory ending revealed the potential future of some major characters including Kaley Cuoco’s Penny and Johnny Galecki’s Leonard Hofstadter. Penny was pregnant with Leonard which was something for fans to cheer on. However, the Young Sheldon finale has a shocking hint at Leonard’s future.

George Cooper’s death was sad but it was inevitable as it was heavily mentioned in The Big Bang Theory on multiple occasions. Part one of the two-part finale mourned the death of George but the second part featured the long-anticipated Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik reunion as the onscreen couple— Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler.

In the episode, a sad clue about Hofstadter may have been hidden. Galecki’s character has never been mentioned in the prequel sitcom but Penny’s namedrop was a solace for fans. For context, Young Sheldon featured Simon Helberg’s Howard (the classic ISS bragging included) in mid-season and Amy was also previously featured. Now, the potential reasons for Hofstadter’s omissions could be a divorce from Penny or worst case scenario, death.

Can you imagine Leonard and Penny’s divorce? Probably not in the wildest dream despite the on-and-off relationship the duo had throughout the show, Leonard would never let her go.

Again, Sheldon and Amy named their son Leonard as revealed in Young Sheldon. Understandably, Star Trek actor Leonard Nimoy’s name would pop up but that would be of no interest to Amy, her bag of tricks would have definitely convinced Sheldon to go her way while naming their son Leonard Cooper. Now, as  Amy mentioned their unnamed daughter following Penny’s dream, Sheldon said, “I told you we never should have let Penny babysit.” In this regard, it’s weird not hearing Hofstadter’s name as he was the roommate of Sheldon and his best friend in the whole universe.

Hopefully, it was Sheldon’s another brutal crack at Penny’s failed dream of becoming an actress. And if that is the case, it is undoubtedly classy Sheldon but again, naming their son Leonard is a heartache forcing us to speculate the worst.

As for Galecki, the Roseanne alum and In Time star has been on a break from acting (per CinemaBlend) which may have propelled Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro to exclude his character’s name from the Sheldon Cooper origin story. Hopefully, the extension of the universe with George and Mandy spin-off or other potential projects provide us valid clues about the character.
